An Act to amend the Civil List Act 1968
(1? May 1975
BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
(1) This Act may be cited as the Civil List Amendment Act 1975 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 1968 (hereinafter referred to as the "principal Act").
(2) This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on the first day of January 1975.
Subsection (1) of section 10 of the principal Act is hereby amended by -
(a) Omitting from paragraph (a) the word "five" and substituting the word "six";
(b) Omitting from paragraph (b) the words "five hundred" and substituting the words "one thousand".
The principal Act is hereby further amended by inserting after Part IIA (as inserted by section 5 of the Civil List Amendment Act 1969) and before Part III the following new Part:-
"PART IIB
DEPUTIES TO THE PREMIER
20F Appointment of Deputies to the Premier
The High Commissioner may from time to time by Warrant under his hand on the advice of the Premier, appoint any Member of the Legislative Assembly to a Deputy to the Premier.
20G Term of office
(1) The office of a Deputy to the Premier shall be vacated if:
- (a) he resigns his office by notice in writing to the High Commissioner, or
- (b) he ceases to be a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
(2) Subject to the foregoing provisions of this section, every person appointed as a Deputy to the Premier shall hold office as such during the pleasure of the High Commissioner acting on the advice of the Premier.
20H Notice of appointment and vacation of office
Notice of the appointment of any person as a Deputy to the Premier, and of vacation of his office by resignation or otherwise, shall be published in the Gazette forthwith after the appointment or vacation of office, as the case may be.
20I Remuneration of Deputies to the Premier
There shall be paid to each Deputy to the Premier -
- (a) A salary at the rate of six thousand five hundred dollars a year;
- (b) A representation allowance at the rate of one thousand five hundred dollars a year to provide for expenses incurred in connection with his official duties and his duties in connection with the Legislative Assembly.
20J Functions of Deputies
A Deputy to the Premier shall perform such functions as shall be prescribed for him by the Premier."
Subsection (1) of section 21 of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting after the words "the Speaker" (as inserted by section 4 of the Civil List Amendment Act 1963-69) and before the words "or members" the words "Deputies to the Premier."
Section 24 of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting after the word "Crown" and before the word "pursuant" the words "Deputies to the Premier."
Subsection (1) of section 26 of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting after the word Speaker" and before the words "or to Members" the words "or Deputies to the Premier."
