An Act to amend the Civil List Act 1984 to provide for the office of Parliamentary Under-secretary

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:
This Act may be cited as the Civil List Amendment Act 2000 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 1984 ("the principal Act").
The principal Act is amended by inserting after section 16, the following new sections -
"16A. Parliamentary Under-secretary
(1) The Queen's Representative on the advice of the Prime Minister, may appoint any member to be a Parliamentary Under-secretary to a Minister.
(2) The Parliamentary Under-secretary shall, in addition to his or her parliamentary salary, receive an office allowance to be paid out of funds appropriated under an Appropriation Act to a Minister's office.
16B. Functions of a Parliamentary Under-secretary
A Parliamentary Under-secretary to a Minister shall perform such functions as shall be prescribed by his or her Minister."
This Act shall be administered by the Office of the Legislative Service
