An Act to amend the Shipping Registry Act 1985

(18 December 1987

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. Short Title - This Act may be cited as the Shipping Registry Amendment Act 1987, and shall be read with and deemed part of the Shipping Registry Act 1985 (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act").

2. Registration of small ships - The principal Act is amended by inserting after section 13, the following new section:

"13A. Registration of small ships - (1) Notwithstanding any of the provisions of this Act, where the owner of any ship which is less than 35 metres in length or less than 200 gross tonnes desires to register such ship in accordance with this Act, he may make written application to the Registrar.

(2) Where it appears to the Registrar that it is desirable that such application be accepted, the Registrar may register that ship and subject to subsection (2), the provisions of this Act shall, with all necessary modifications, then apply to that ship.

(3) The Registrar may exempt any ship registered pursuant to subsection (2) from such of the provisions of this Act as the Registrar may determine."
