An Act to amend the Welfare Act 1989.

The Parliament of the Cook Islands enacts as follows—

1. Title

This Act is the Welfare Amendment Act 2018.

2. Commencement

This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives assent by the Queen’s Representative.

3. Principal Act amended

This Act amends the Welfare Act 1989.

4. Child benefit

Section 4 of the principal Act is amended by deleting from the last line of subsection (1) the word “twelve” and substituting the word “fourteen”.

5. Period for which child benefit payable

Section 7 of the principal Act is amended by deleting from the last lines of subsections (1) and (4) the word “twelve” and substituting the word “fourteen”.

6. Amount of advances

Section 27 of the principal Act is amended by deleting from the last line of subsection (2) the figure “12” and substituting the figure “14”.

This Act is administered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
