SUPERANNUATION (AMENDMENT) ACT 1991


(No. 2 of 1991)


To amend the Superannuation Act 1966-1973 and related purposes


(Certified 25th March 1991)


Enacted by the Parliament of Nauru as follows:


SHORT TITLE AND CITATION


1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Superannuation (Amendment) Act 1991.


(2) The Superannuation Act 1966-1973 is, in this Act, referred to as the Principal Act.


(3) The Principal Act as amended by this Act may be cited as the Superannuation Act 1966-1991.


AMENDMENT OF SECTION 24 OF THE PRINCIPAL ACT


2. For Section 24 of the Principal Act the following shall be substituted:


"24. Subject to this Division the amount of the contribution by an officer in respect of a unit is an amount ascertained in accordance with the Table of contributions set out in the Schedule, if a male in accordance with column 4 and if female in accordance with column 5, and having regard to the age of the contributor at the date when the obligation to contribute for that unit comes into force."


AMENDMENT OF SECTION 27 OF THE PRINCIPAL ACT


3. Section 27 of the Principal Act is amended as follows:


The expression "the second or third column", shall be substituted by the expression "column 4 or column 5".


AMENDMENT OF SECTION 36 OF THE PRINCIPAL ACT


4. In Section 36 of the Principal Act the words "Thirty-six dollars forty cents" shall be substituted by the words "Forty-five dollars".


AMENDMENT OF SCHEDULE OF THE PRINCIPAL ACT


5. The Schedule of the Principal Act shall be substituted for by the new Schedule attached herewith.


SAVINGS AND EFFECTIVE DATE OF AMENDMENTS


6. (1) Except as in this Act expressly or by necessary implication provided, all persons, things and circumstances appointed or created by or under the Principal Act continue to have the same status, operation and effect as they would have had, if this Act had not been passed.


(2) The amendments made by this Act shall have effect from 1st July 1989 and Cabinet may make such orders, which shall be notified in the Gazette, as may be necessary to give effect thereto.
