IN THE SUPREME COURT OF TONGA
Practice Direction 3/03
Tonga Law Reports
Counsel are still citing cases by their original case number even after they have been reported in the Tonga Law Reports. When copies are supplied to the court, copies of the original judgment are often passed up.
In future, if counsel intends to cite a case which has been reported, the proper reference to the case in the Reports is to be used and any copy provided to the court is to be of the reported judgment.
The 1998 volume of the Tonga Law Reports is soon to be released. I consider it part of the duty of any practitioner to have his own set of Tonga Law Reports and, when considering the renewal of practising certificates, I shall require the production of a receipt for the purchase of any volume of the Reports issued in the preceding year.
