JUDGMENT No. (A) 21/61
of 16th. November, 1961.
THE sixteenth day of November in the year 1961.
BEFORE THEIR HONOURS:
James P. TRAINOR, British Judge, President,
Georges GUESDON, French Judge,
and A.W. GARNETT, esq., Assessor,
assisted by Mr. E. BUTERI, Registrar.
THIS is a charge against WILLIE NAURAI, a native of TANNA, employed by Mr. OHLEN, accused of having on or about the 30th. September, 1961 at VILA, Efate, Central District No. 1, stolen:
1) 4 pairs of socks, valued at 16/- the property of FUNG KUEI, a British Subject;
2) 1 pair of black "FRESCO" shoes, the property of WU JI YUEN, a British Ressortissant.
Mr. D. WALFORD, Commandant of British Police, Public Prosecutor ad hoc appeared for the prosecution and Maitre A. de PREVILLE for the defence.
THE COURT accepts the accused's plea of guilty, convicts and sentences him to ONE month imprisonment and he is remanded in custody until the Decision of the Resident Commissioners is made known. As the accused has been in custody since the 8th day of November, 1961 such period together with any further period intervening between the date hereof and the announcement of the Decision of the Resident Commissioners, shall be deemed to be part of the term of imprisonment imposed by the Court.
On the expiration of ONE month from the day of 8th. November, 1961, the date of the accused's arrest, his sentence of one month imprisonment shall be deemed to have been served.
The stolen articles are to be restored to the rightful Owners FUNG KUEI and WU JI YUEN.
